Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

Members present:
Karen DePauw (President), Philip Langlais (Vice-President), Max Poole (secretary/ treasurer), Deborah Arfken (Immediate Past-President), Dianne Barron, Jeannine Blackwell, Mitchell Muehsam, Eddie Palmer, Rebecca Saunders, Paul Starkey, Maurice Taylor (new committee member), John Watret (new committee member), Jean Pugliese (new committee member), Dorris Robinson-Gardner (ex officio member, President CHBGS).
Guests:
Frankie Felder, and Edelma Huntley (immediate past-committee members).
Karen DePauw, President, called the meeting to order at 7:45 a.m. and welcomed the new members to the committee and thanked Deborah Arfken (Immediate Past-President) and Frankie Felder, Edelma Huntley, and Dorris Robinson-Gradner (immediate past-committee members) for their past service to CSGS.
Treasurers/Secretary Report:
- Minutes from the Executive Committee Meeting in December 8, 2006 (JW Marriott Hotel, Washington, DC) were accepted.
- 189 participants attended the current meeting.
- As of February 17, 2007: Bank account (Bank of America) has $125,111.04. It was noted that significant meeting expenditures were still to be made, and Mitch Muehsam mentioned that we should remind members that CSGS heavily subsidized the expenditures of this meeting to keep the room cost low.
Karen distributed a list of feedback comments & suggestions from CSGS attendees about the current 2007 meeting. There were many useful topics & suggestions and a list of members wishing to volunteer for CSGS activities. In reference to the volunteers, Karen noted that the current members of the Audit, Awards, Membership, and Thesis Committees have done an outstanding job, but we need to continually refresh the committees with new members. In addition to the volunteers, several others were mentioned by executive committee members as prospective committee members and chairpersons: Michael Cuyjet (U Louisville), Judy Devine (Florida SU), Paula Williamson (Texas SU-San Marcos), Kathleen Hilton (UNC-Pembroke), Frankie Felder (Clemson U), Stephanie Bellar (UT-Chattanooga), Mark Harrison (Morgan SU), Pamela Knox (Middle Tenn SU), and Troy Terry (Furman U).
There was discussion of sites for the 2009 meeting and it was decided to solicit proposals from Norfolk, VA; Lexington, KY; and Savannah, GA.
Several items were mentioned for further discussion at the next meeting including maintenance of the CSGS website; travel stipends for speakers; and discussion with CGS about hosting the website.
The next Executive Committee Meeting will be in Austin, Texas at the Sheraton- Austin in late May or June, 2007.
The Executive Committee Meeting adjourned at 8:30 am.
