The theme for the 2008 annual meeting is “Transform Graduate Education Through Innovation.” The goal of the annual meeting is to provide a forum through which the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools will:

Preliminary Overview of Meeting

The program for the 2008 Annual Meeting will include plenary and interactive sessions based upon the contents of CGS Report: “Graduate Education: The Backbone of American Competitiveness and Innovation”. The format will altered slightly to accomplish the following:

Keynote Address by the President of CSGS introducing

  • The CGS Report and the Action Items
  • Concept of Membership Participation in Developing “Best Practices” and leading the nation in this effort
  • New format for Annual Meeting and year-long activities and services

Plenary Sessions consisting of a panel of speakers to describe the background and importance of each Action Item. Main speaker invited to prepare “discussion provoking” paper prior to annual meeting. (30 min summary/overview, 15 min Q&A)

Mini-workshops following Plenary sessions. Each workshop will be led by one of the session panelist and actively engage attendees to share and brainstorm on ways to accomplish the action item.

Membership Participation in Identifying Best Practices for each of the 5 Action Items (using CSGS web).

Closing and summary session address by the president-elect and charge for the next year and the 2009 Annual Meeting.
