2009 Achievement Awards for New Scholars
in Life Sciences
Purpose
To recognize scholarly achievement by a faculty member of a CSGS institution
who has completed the terminal degree within the past six years.
Award
$1000 plus travel expenses for the awardee to attend the 2009 CSGS meeting
in Norfolk, Virginia, where the award will be presented on February 28,
2009.
Eligibility
- The nominee must have published a book or a series of articles or produced a comprehensive work or a series of works which have been exhibited or performed.
- The nominee must have published, exhibited or performed the work within the previous six years, May 1, 2002 through April 30, 2008.
- The nominee must have received the terminal degree from an American university during the same six-year period specified above.
- The nominee must be a faculty member of a CSGS institution.
Deadline
Nomination materials should be received by Dr. Mark Garrison,

Nomination and Selection Procedures
Nominations may be made by any CSGS member institution representative.
One nomination per institution is allowed. Nominations should include the
following materials:
- A letter of endorsement from the graduate dean (or equivalent) of the nominee.
- A summary of the nominee's qualifications and contributions.
- A curriculum vitae of the nominee (no more than 6 pages) with contact information for the nominee.
- A summary of the nominee's scholarship and contributions. Samples of work should not be included.
- A maximum of 3 letters of recommendation attesting to the scholarly achievement of the nominee.
- Hardcopies of the complete original nomination packet and four additional copies (original plus four copies) MUST be submitted by US Mail or alternative carrier and postmarked no later than October 10, 2008. NO INCOMPLETE PACKETS AND NO ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED.
Future Awards
New scholars from other disciplines will be recognized in successive years
in the following sequence: Social Sciences, Business, and Education (2010);
Humanities and Fine Arts (2011); Math, Physical Sciences, and Engineering
(2012).
